i am also concerned

the following conversation with mother occurred yesterday:

mom: hello?

emily: hi mom.

mom: hello, emily.

emily: what are you doing?

mom: (sing--song) work--ing.

emily: my ivy is doing well.

mom: (sing-- song) goo--od.

emily: are you sick?

mom: (suddenly sounding really sick) i can't get over my cold. (increasingly hoarse) a lady at work said this cold doesn't go away.

emily: ever?

mom: (exhausted) i don't know, emily.

emily: well, i'll let you go.

mom: (crazy half--laugh, you know the one) ahhh, we just got on the phone.

emily: yeah, but you sound like you're in a bad mood. i'm scared.

mom: no, emily, i am just very sick.

emily: why don't you have some tea.

mom: tea doesn't help. only lemon juice helps.

emily: i drink tea when i'm sick and it makes me feel better.

mom: tea doesn't help. only lemon juice helps.

emily: i gotta go.

mom: (sing--song) good--bye.

Yes, I believe it's a round trip ticket, because I just got of the phone with her and heard a familiar song with a new verse about how Mom had plans to surprise Dad with a trip to the Grand Canyon and meet Aunt Patty and Uncle Jim. For whatever reason it then got dumbed down to Morro Bay and no surprise. But, because they spent too much money with Ed and Nancy this weekend and they want to buy their amoir for their bedroom, they've decided to piss away the 5 days vacation at home, and work on projects and maybe go to Las Vegas on Mon./Tues. "The well is dry" "No money for what you want, but always money for what Mom wants" "Vanderbears"...
